November 3 in Sendai: Enjoy the Aoba Ward Festival with GAIA Resort
Live performances, festival food, traditional dance, and hands-on activities—discover central Sendai from four GAIA Resort accommodation bases.
The 38th Aoba Ward Festival will take place in central Sendai on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Japan’s Culture Day national holiday.
This year’s theme celebrates connections within the community. The festival extends from Kotodai Park’s Ikoi-no-Hiroba area through Ichibancho 4-chome, Brandome Ichibancho, Sunmall Ichibancho, and Marble Road Omachi.
Music, dance, food stalls, shopping, and activities for children offer plenty of ways to enjoy the day.
For guests who would like to walk to the festival, GAIA Resort Sendai “Michi” is approximately a 10–15-minute walk from the main park venue. Guests staying at Daydream Villa, SEA SIDE GAIA RESORT HOTEL, or Shiroishi “Michi” can also combine the event with their Miyagi travel plans.
Discover Sendai’s Community Spirit
The festival brings together local organizations, shopping streets, businesses, students, and residents. Performances and exhibitions offer opportunities to discover the people and activities behind the city’s everyday life.
Whether this is your first visit to Sendai or a return trip, a community festival can reveal a different side of the destination.
Kotodai Park: Performances, Food, and Family Activities
The temporary plaza stage and outdoor music hall stage will host music, dance, and other performances. Food stalls and food trucks will be available in the Aoba Gourmet area.
The miniature steam locomotive attraction is scheduled to operate from 10:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The fire department area also plans activities including photo opportunities with emergency vehicles.
Ichibancho 4-chome: Performances and Youth Activities
The special stage will feature performances such as cheerleading, hip-hop dance, and band music. The children’s and youth area will also offer activities and opportunities to discover local projects.
Brandome Ichibancho: Exhibitions and Hands-On Experiences
Community organizations will introduce their activities through exhibitions, interactive booths, and consultation areas. Explore the festival while browsing the shops along the arcade.
Sunmall Ichibancho: Entertainment, Shopping, and Craftsmanship
Visit the special stage, browse merchandise stalls near Fujisaki, and discover the craftspeople’s area. The combination of performances and local products makes this another enjoyable stop.
Marble Road Omachi: Traditional Sparrow Dance
The Suzume Nagashi Odori dance procession is scheduled here, offering an opportunity to encounter Sendai’s festival traditions. A stamp rally and prize drawing are also planned across the event areas.
Please check the official program for performance times, participation requirements, and any changes.
