“Discover Taiwan 2026 in Sendai” will take place on Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, 2026, mainly along the Sunmall Ichibancho Shopping Street in central Sendai.
This two-day event offers visitors the opportunity to experience Taiwanese food, culture, tourism, history, and everyday life while discovering the close relationship between Taiwan and Sendai.
Guests staying at GAIA Resort properties in Sendai or elsewhere in Miyagi are invited to include this special event in their weekend travel plans.

The event will feature popular Taiwanese dishes and drinks, including lu rou fan, pepper buns, Taiwanese sticky rice, Taiwanese tea, and douhua.
Visitors can also enjoy Taiwanese foods and crafts, Hakka floral-pattern goods, Taiwanese coffee, indigenous cultural displays and costume experiences, night-market-style games, mini language lessons, and Taiwanese tea workshops.
Some activities require a fee or advance reservation. Event programs and participating vendors are subject to change.
A Close Connection Between Sendai and Taiwan
Sendai City and Tainan City signed an Agreement on Promoting Exchanges in 2006 and have continued to develop their relationship through cultural and community exchanges.
Following the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Taiwan provided extensive support to the affected areas of Tohoku, further strengthening the bond between the two regions.
Since its launch in 2021, Discover Taiwan in Sendai has continued to express gratitude to Taiwan while promoting Taiwanese culture, friendship, and future exchange.
Twenty Direct Flights per Week
Sendai Airport and Taiwan are currently connected by 20 direct flights each week: 17 flights to and from Taipei and three flights to and from Kaohsiung.
With convenient nonstop services, Taiwan has become an increasingly accessible international destination for people living in and visiting Tohoku.
