支倉常長公が目指した世界
1613年、仙台藩主・伊達政宗公は、日本と世界を結ぶ新たな可能性を求め、慶長遣欧使節団を派遣しました。
その使節団を率いたのが、川崎町出身の支倉常長公です。
支倉常長公は太平洋を渡り、メキシコ、スペイン、そしてイタリア・ローマへと赴き、日本人として初めてローマ教皇に謁見した外交使節の一人となりました。
その壮大な航海は、日本とヨーロッパの交流史における重要な一ページとして、今も語り継がれています。
現在、支倉常長公は川崎町の円福寺に眠っています。
静かな境内に立つと、約400年前に世界へ挑戦した一人の武士の志を感じることができます。
The Journey of Hasekura Tsunenaga
In 1613, Lord Date Masamune sent the Keicho Embassy to establish relations with Europe.
Leading this historic mission was Hasekura Tsunenaga, born in what is now Kawasaki Town.
He crossed the Pacific Ocean, traveled through Mexico and Spain, and finally reached Rome, where he met Pope Paul V.
Today, Hasekura rests peacefully at Enpukuji Temple, a place that quietly preserves the memory of one of Japan’s greatest international journeys.
イタリアから宮城へ受け継がれた地域づくりの理念
それから約400年。
再びイタリアと宮城を結ぶ新たなご縁が生まれました。
GAIA Resortは、イタリアで誕生した分散型ホテル・まちづくりの理念「アルベルゴ・ディフーゾ（Albergo Diffuso）」から発展した新しい地域づくりの概念「オスピタリタ・ディフーザ（Ospitalità Diffusa）」について、世界で初めて正式認証を受けました。
アルベルゴ・ディフーゾは、ホテルを一棟建設するのではなく、地域に点在する建物や空き家を活用し、「地域全体を一つの宿」として滞在を楽しむイタリア発祥の考え方です。
GAIA Resortでは、この理念を宮城の豊かな自然、温泉、食文化、農業、福祉、そして地域コミュニティと融合させ、「暮らすように滞在する旅」をご提案しています。
A New Connection with Italy
Four centuries later, another bridge between Italy and Miyagi has been built.
GAIA Resort became the world’s first officially certified Ospitalità Diffusa, inspired by Italy’s Albergo Diffuso philosophy.
Rather than concentrating hospitality in a single building, this concept embraces the entire community as one destination, allowing visitors to experience local culture, history, and everyday life.
平戸へと続く、もう一つの物語
この歴史のつながりは、宮城だけにとどまりません。
GAIA Groupは、長崎県平戸市と地域連携協定を締結しました。
平戸は、日本で最初期に海外との交流が始まった港町であり、キリスト教文化が今も色濃く残る、日本を代表する歴史文化都市です。
また、平戸市は市全域がアルベルゴ・ディフーゾタウンとして国際認証を受けています。
支倉常長公がヨーロッパへ渡り、ローマを訪れた歴史。

そして、イタリアで生まれたアルベルゴ・ディフーゾの理念。
一見すると別々の物語のようですが、それぞれが「地域を大切にし、人と文化をつなぐ」という共通の価値観で結ばれています。

A Story That Continues in Hirado
The story extends beyond Miyagi.
GAIA Group has signed a partnership agreement with Hirado City in Nagasaki Prefecture.
Hirado has long been one of Japan’s gateways to international exchange and is renowned for its Christian heritage. Today, the city is internationally recognized as an Albergo Diffuso Town.
Hasekura Tsunenaga’s voyage to Europe, Hirado’s centuries of international exchange, and Italy’s Albergo Diffuso philosophy may appear to be separate stories.
In reality, they are connected by a shared belief: that communities grow stronger when cultures, people, and local heritage are brought together.
